Most people would agree, there is nothing more important than family. There’s also nothing that changes as fast as growing children do! With the blur that is the day to day when raising children, I learned very early on that there was no way I was ever going to remember all the things I’d want to about my child when every time I blinked, it seemed, he was different. My solution? Take a million pictures. If I wanted any that proved I was actually there too? Get someone else to take them.

The best professional family pictures I have ever had are ones where the photographer was relaxed, without any specific agenda and followed my child’s lead. The pictures were always so much better when my child and I were interacting in a genuine way and the photographer focused on trying to catch that, instead of making sure every one was sitting a certain way and smiling just right.

I keep this in mind for all of my family photo sessions, especially when working with young children. Your session will be relaxed and fun, I will be taking my cues from your children (and you of course!) Everyone I’ve ever met takes better pictures when they are relaxed and enjoying themselves. This sometimes means sessions will take a bit longer, but it is always worth it. It usually doesn’t take me very long to figure out the way to a person’s most genuine look and/or smile, whether they are a couple weeks old or 100 years old. I’ve always said that genuine smiles are the best smiles, so an experience that you and your family will genuinely enjoy is my number one priority. If I give you that, giving you pictures that you and yours will love and treasure for years to come is the easy part.
